The Process

To apply your DIY Gel Nail Polish at home, you start by filing the nails, pushing back the cuticles, buffing the nails and cleaning the hands. Make sure to protect your skin by applying sunblock about 30 minutes before commencing your mani.

You’ll then create your manicure with a Base Coat layer, 2-3 Colour Coat layers and a Top Coat layer. Each layer of Nail Gel is cured in just 60 seconds under the Gelous UV/LED Lamp.

You can find a range of tips and tricks to help you create long lasting gel manicures and pedicures on our Commonly Asked Questions page.

Need to know how to remove Gel Nail Polish? To start with, a light buff of the nail surface with your Gelous Nail File removes the shiny Top Coat. You’ll then cover each nail with a Lint Free Pad soaked in Nail Polish Remover and clip in place with the Nail Polish Removal Clips. After letting this sit for 15 minutes you can gently remove the polish with an Orangewood Cuticle Stick. Following this, a soothing coat of Blueberry or Osmanthus Cuticle Oil replenishes your nails with hydrating nutrients.

The Tech

So how exactly does Gel Nail Polish work? UV Nail Polish is made up of acrylic monomers and oligomers that bond together when placed under the UV LED Gel Nail Lamp. This process is called "curing" and in just 60 seconds, the once liquid gel turns into a hard coating. Your Base Coat and Colour Coat layers will remain slightly tacky after curing. These coats need to remain sticky so that when you apply the following layer, it sticks to the layer below. As long as you are applying your polish in thin, even layers and curing for 60 seconds, your Base Coat and Colour Coat will be cured. Unlike the Base Coat and Colour Coat, your Top Coat layer should be hard, dried and perfectly cured once you have placed your nails under the Gel Nail Lamp for 60 seconds.

With usability in mind, Gelous UV/LED Gel Nail Lamps have a spacious design — perfect for manicures or pedicures. They contain 30 premium dual wave LEDs that last up to 50,000 hours and operate at 48W, drying gel polish quickly and efficiently. The LED bulbs, are much safer than UV bulbs, last longer and take less time to dry your nails — it’s a win-win!

Gelous Gel Nail Polish and the Gelous UV/LED Gel Nail Lamp are totally compatible, with the UV LED Gel Nail Lamp operating at 365-405nm and the gel polish curing within this wavelength.
